Shabbat Minha & Ma’ariv (Havdallah) Services
The Cayne Family Chapel is a warm, inviting place of worship in Shaar Shalom where most of the services are held . The smaller room permits quiet reflection during prayer and a closeness to fellow worshippers.
We invite you to join us. If this is your first time in our synagogue, please introduce yourself to Rabbi Berman, Cantor Silverberg or any of our greeters. We would be pleased to assist you in integrating into our synagogue or offering more information. See the table below for times.
The Hashkama Minyan originated at the beginning of 5763 (October 2002). The mandate of the Hashkama Minyan is to provide an early, express, participatory, traditional Conservative service on Shabbat and Yom Tov mornings. The early timing for this service is determined by the limited space in Shaar Shalom and also provides its’ members with an earlier ending. The Minyan follows the traditional Conservative Jewish service in keeping with our synagogue charter.
The Hashkama Minyan allows the member a closer personal experience in a smaller venue and offers an opportunity to broaden their skills towards leading the service, reading Torah and Haftorah, to take the role of the Gabbi or to sponsor a Kiddush. There are experienced members who look forward to helping others achieve new skills in prayer and study in a non-threatening environment. This service is completely led by those who attend, though Rabbi Berman, as Rabbi of Shaar Shalom, does determine all issues of Halacha for the service.
We encourage people to help us forge our minyan as an observer. Here you can approach members, should you want to brush up on or learn new skills. Volunteers are always welcome to take on a leadership role as their comfort level increases. Lessons and tapes can be arranged to help you in your learning.
