The Shaar Shalom Youth Department offers amazing programming for youth from grade 1 to grade 12. Our mission is to provide each of our children with an individual Jewish identity that connects them to the Jewish culture and tradition while providing them with opportunities to make lifelong friendships and have fun doing it all. We hope to stimulate our youth with intellectual, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual growth in a safe and caring environment. We do this through our four youth groups.
Giborim and Maccabee (Gr. 1-5): These youth groups are for kids in grades 1 through 5. We offer many Sunday afternoon programs that promise to be fun filled. Kadima (Gr. 6-8): This youth group is for our youth in grades 6 through 8. We offer many fun filled programs for this age group. This is an international program provided by the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism for this age group. Kadima aims to enrich your children’s religious experience through creative programming ranging from social to educational and even social action events and encourages participation through leadership roles. United Synagogue Youth (Gr. 9-12): United Synagogue Youth (USY) is an international program provided by the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism for kids in grades 9 through 12. At Shaar Shalom we host our own chapter of USY called Shaar Shalom Amazing United Synagogue Youth (SSAUSY). We offer great programming, usually in conjunction with other synagogues to introduce the kids to a broader Jewish community. We are also affiliated with the Eastern Canadian Region of United Synagogue Youth (ECRUSY) which provides regional conventions and programs that bring together kids from all over Ontario. Many of our Shaar Shalom USYers also take advantage of USY summer trips in the U.S., Israel and Europe and study programs in Israel. During winter break USY offers an International Convention which brings together kids from all over Canada and the United States.
