Tikkun Olam at Shaar Shalom – Social Action Activities

Todah Raba

Yasher Koach to the Shaar Shalom community for helping the homeless again this year by donating over 50 bags of clothing,  preparing lasagnas and cookies and helping at the Out of the Cold Programme at Har Zion. Thanks to our corporate donors, Walmart Kosher Department (700 Centre Street, Thornhill), Longos (Bayview/Laureleaf), Costco (Woodbine Avenue), our caterer Levy’s Catering and Mr. Janitorial for their very generous contributions to this year’s program.

Milk Bags into Beds

Did you know that one child’s mat= 300 milk bags and an adult size mat = 600 milk bags. This means that a lot of milk has to be consumed before even one mat can be made. Spread the word, Shaar Shalom’s Social Action committee is collecting Plastic milk bags which will be converted into “yarn” and then crocheted into the mats. All you have to do is save the outer milk bags milk bags and make sure they’re clean and dry and drop them in the marked receptacle in the lobby at the shul outside the main floor cloak room. We will not only make sure that the bags are converted into a very useful product (mats to sleep on) but also prevent them from of going into the landfill.
