Participation with Out Of The Cold annual winter program

Provider of gently used and necessary clothing items
Our committee facilitates the collection and distribution of clothing and accessories for men, women and children in need within our communities, through several fantastic organizations.
November & December we are collecting:
- New and gently used clothing
- Sample sized toiletries for Out of the Cold and Ve’ahavta.
***Items can be left on the lower level next to the stairs***
Seasonal and Ongoing food drives
To date, we have collected 154 pounds of food.
Milk Bags into Beds
In August of 2005 Haiti and Cuba were both severely hit by a hurricane that wreaked havoc all along its path. Homes were completely destroyed and families were torn apart. Many are still living in critical conditions. One of the issues these people face is that they have to sleep outside and have no bedding to protect them.
How you can help
Plastic milk bags are converted into “yarn” and then crocheted into the mats. A child’s mat takes about 300 milk bags, an adult size mat takes about 600 bags to make. Simply save your outer milk bags (not those made of recyclable materials), make sure they’re clean and dry and drop them in the marked receptacle in the lobby at the shul. We will ensure that the bags are converted into a useful product instead of going into the landfill.

Shaar Shalom collaborates with six other area Synagogues, representing different strands of Judiasm in a range of community activities which connect us in our goal of Tikkun Olam.
Together we are actively working on projects to educate our community about Tikkun Olam and our environment.
